Stakeholders prepare for Tourism Week 2022

Preparations for Tourism Week 2022 are in their final stages with just days to go before the highly anticipated event.

This year, Tourism Week runs from 3rd to 10th December, 2022 “One Team, One Vision”.

This year heralds the return of the event following the pandemic.

Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Investment, the week of activities will feature a Service of Thanksgiving on 3rd December followed by a charity golf tournament a day later.

The activities continue on 5th December when children will be sensitised to the importance of tourism to Antigua and Barbuda in the You For A Day school tour.

Tourism Blast Off takes centre stage on 6th December while the highly anticipated Taste of Wadadli follows on 9th December.

Taste of Wadadli is being billed as the “most anticipated Culture Event” of 2022.

Scheduled to take place at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium, from 11am to 7pm, the event will celebrate the country’s food, culture and home and will showcase a collection of vendors and artisans representing the best of Antiguan and Barbudan cuisine and heritage.

One of the highlights of the day will be the Mixologist Competition which will challenge the country’s top bartenders to develop the drink that will be chosen as the Cocktail of the Year. This beverage will be used by the country’s tourism marketing team at key promotional events promoting the destination.  to be served across the destination as the featured drink at all key promotional events.

The other top event is the Fire Pit Hot Sauce Competition in which the country’s hottest and most flavorful hot sauce, selected from the well-guarded recipes of top chefs and the kitchens of home cooks across the nation, will be selected to also feature in 2023 on promotional tours promoting Antigua and Barbuda.

The week of activities concludes on Saturday with the Tourism Awards Gala.

This year’s Tourism Week is sponsored by several organisations including the Antigua Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association, Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute, Ministry of Creative Industries and Innovation, Antigua Barbuda Workers Union, Antigua Cruise Port, Antigua and Barbuda Tourism and Ministry of Sports.
