Police are investigating yet another incident of drug smuggling through the General Post Office.

On Monday, the Customs Task Force and Police K-9 Unit conducted a joint operation which resulted in the discovery of four vacuum-sealed packages that were concealed in a cardboard box.

Upon opening the parcel which was mailed to Antigua and Barbuda from the United States of America, a substance believed to be marijuana was discovered.

The value of the cannabis found is estimated at EC$20,000.00.

Police have not indicated whether they have identified anyone involved in the importation of the controlled substance.

This is the third major drug discovery at a port of entry since the start of 2023.

On 9th January, EC$24,000.00 worth of marijuana was discovered at the FedEx office located at the V. C. Bird International Airport cargo bay in an operation conducted by the police Narcotics Unit and Customs Enforcement Department.

Days earlier on 6th January, fifty-two vacuum sealed packages of cannabis, weighing 52 pounds, were discovered at the Deep Water Harbour.

The value of that seizure was estimated at EC$312,000.00.
