Young adults between the ages of 16 and 35 are providing positive feedback to the first Youth Empowerment Forum hosted on 7th January 2023, by the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party’s representative for St. John’s Rural East (SJRE), Maria Browne.

The objective of the all-day forum was to encourage the participants to take control of their own lives and create positive changes in their communities while developing the skills necessary to make the transition from adolescence into adulthood.

They were also exposed to several topics covering the processes and requirements for purchasing land in Antigua and Barbuda, Educational Opportunities, wealth management, the concept of an Antiguan and Barbudan entrepreneur, career preparation tips, the importance of mental and physical wellness, and many more essential life topics.

The speakers included Tracy Withy Browne from Goal Getters, Maurice Merchant from the Prime Ministers Scholarship Committee, Troy Allen from LEEP Programme, Abby Haynes from the Central Housing and Planning Authority, Nikido Joseph from Ledger Solutions and Carl Christopher, Marlene James and Chevonie Francis from The Harrison Center (ABICE).

One participant, Maleyny Dessi, described the forum on Saturday as being “very informative and empowering” as she acquired invaluable and life changing information.

President of the SJRE Youth Group and one of the organisers of the forum, Imani Sinclair, said this forum is the first of many which will be staged under MP Browne’s leadership.

Sinclair also thanked her team for ensuring that the forum was a success.

Sinclair also presented MP Browne with an award to thank her for her outstanding and dedicated service to the youths of St John’s Rural East.

Over 65 young people participated in the forum that was held at the John E. St. Luce Finance and Conference Center.
