Early morning fire destroys business structure in Yorks

A combined wood and concrete structure that housed a fish-fry and bar-b-que
business in Yorks, was destroyed in an early morning fire, on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Fire Department Inspector Lester Bagot, reported that at 5:15
am on Tuesday 11 th July 2023, the St John’s Fire station received a telephone call
stating that a house was on fire in Yorks. An immediate response to the fire was
made by the No. 10 and No. 15 fire tenders.
“On arrival at the scene, the fire crew met a building fully engulfed in flames.
Water was used from the fire tenders to control and extinguish the fire. The size of
the building was 36 x 48 feet and was constructed of wood, concrete, and
galvanize. It was owned by Mr. Wayne Friday and was used as a Fish fry and
barbecue business. The building along with its contents was completely destroyed.
The Fire Brigade is investigating the origin of the fire,” Inspector Bagot reported.
There were no reports of injuries as no one resided in the building. The call,
alerting the fire department about the fire was placed by a neighbour.
There have been a total of 246 fire calls for the year so far.
