Despite being thwarted at almost every turn, smugglers continue to seek out ways in which they can import illicit drugs into the country.

The latest attempt was thwarted at a local outpost of the international courier conglomerate, FedEx Corporation.

During a joint drug interdiction operation on Monday afternoon at the cargo section of the V. C. Bird International Airport, the police Narcotics Unit and Customs Enforcement Department officers discovered four vacuum sealed packages of cannabis in a brown FedEx cardboard box.

Once transported to Police Headquarters, it was determined that the illicit substance weighed a total of four pounds and had an estimated street value of $24,000.00.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

This is the second drug interdiction since the start of 2023.

In a similar operation at Deep Water Harbour last Friday, fifty-two vacuum sealed packages of cannabis were discovered weighing 52 pounds. Law enforcement officials have estimated that discovery’s value at $312,000.00.
