The Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship which was originally set for Bogota, Columbia from August 28 to 30 has been postponed yet again.

As a result of the pandemic, the event was rescheduled to November 19 to 21 in Bridgetown, Barbados, however, the date and location of the event have been changed yet again according to president of the Antigua and Barbuda Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Federation Dave George.

The championship will  now be held in the Dominican Republic as the organisers of the event were unable to adjust to the strict two week quarantine period demanded by the Barbados government.

Speaking to PointeXpress, George said the championship will now take place from December 19 to 21 in Santo Domingo and disclosed that three athletes will represent Antigua and Barbuda at the event.

Seven athletes were slated to travel to Barbados, but with the recent changes the team has been trimmed to three.

The Antigua and Barbuda Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Federation’s elections are constitutionally due in January 2021, but George has not yet decided if he will seek reelection to the organisation’s top post.

The well known sports broadcaster is very proud of the leadership his executive has provided to bodybuilding over the past three years and pointed to the record breaking achievements of local athletes in the 2019 national championship, the production of seven professional bodybuilders over the period and attracting new participants and patrons to the 2019 championship. This, according to George, is a clear indication that sport has grown and attracted new interest over the years.
