One of the senior staff members of the Board of Education (BOE) – Project
Supervisor Mervin Browne – has graduated with honours in the specialized
training programme being offered jointly by the University of the West Indies Five
Islands Campus and Harvard University in the United States.
Browne started the programme in January this year and completed it in May and
emerged as the only person, so far, to complete the highly rigorous and intense
course gaining honours in Antigua and Barbuda.
Members of the board for the BOE and staff gathered on Tuesday for a special
ceremony to congratulate Browne on his achievement. He has been described as a
dedicated, meticulous, and hard-working member of the senior team.
Board member, Bishop Charlesworth Browne said when he learned that Browne
had started the programme, he wondered just how he would cope, given the sheer
weight of his daily tasks. However, he said he is very proud that not only did
Browne complete the rigorous programme, but he did so with flying colours,
attaining honours.
Speaking on behalf of the UWI FIC, the Director of the Life Long Learning Unit,
which facilitates the Harvard CORe programme, Paula Lee noted that the unit
offers access to learning and development to individuals wishing to upgrade their
skills and certification.
“Having registered more than 100 students since the inception of the Harvard
CORe programme in 2021, Mr. Mervin Browne is the first participant to have
Passed with Honours. This is a huge accomplishment and I am delighted that the
Leaders of the Board of Education have planned this ceremony to celebrate Mr.
Browne, and his colleagues who participated in the programme.”
“The Harvard Credential of Readiness programme offers three courses – Business
Analytics, Economics for Managers and Financial Accounting. Each course is
designed to help individuals to master essential business skills, confidently
participate in organizational decision-making and advance their careers,” she
remarked.

Lee also revealed that the programme has attracted interests from individuals
across the Caribbean.
