The new health clinic located in Bolans is opening its doors today offering services
to people in the community.
The clinic was officially opened several months ago, but it had several challenges
to overcome before it could be operational.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Ena Dalso-Henry, said the ministry
had planned on resolving the outstanding issues last week to ensure that the clinic
could begin offering services to the public. Unfortunately, the threat posed by the
passage of Hurricane Tammy brought much of these activities to a halt, pushing
back the operationalization of the clinic into this week.
She indicated that teams from the Ministries of Works and Health spent much of
Monday putting the finishing touches to the structure to ensure that it would be in a
state of readiness for Tuesday.
Already, she noted the pharmacy at the clinic is functional and the plan is that all
other services will be ready when the doors open today.
The clinic will feature offices for two doctors, offices for nurses, examination
rooms with attendant equipment, as well as a dental clinic.
Getting the clinic functional has been part of the government’s plans to overhaul
and upgrade the health facilities in the country especially those in the rural areas
that had fallen into disrepair.
The clinic at Bolans is a completely new structure and it is a marked upgrade from
the site of the previous clinic that was housed in rental accommodations.
It is expected to serve patients in the southern corridor of Antigua by offering a
host of healthcare services that would reduce the need for these individuals to seek
these services at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
