General Manager of the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority Darwin Telemaque has
successfully retained the Chairmanship of the Port Management Association of the
Caribbean (PMAC).
Telemaque was elected unopposed at the association’s Annual General Meeting
held at Antigua’s Royalton Resort over the weekend. This election means he will
serve a second two-year term.
“I am grateful that PMAC members saw it fit to extend the role that we have been
playing in the management of the organization at this, the 26 th annual general
meeting. PMAC is the largest grouping of port operators in the region and over the
past two years our focus has been on our ports and our human resources, our
people,” the port manager stated.
He noted that it is fortuitous that the meeting took place here in Antigua and
Barbuda where PMAC was given birth, back in 1998 at the same property, then
called Royal Antiguan Hotel. He expressed the view that this speaks well for
Antigua and Barbuda’s leadership within PMAC.
Telemaque said his continued focus will be on improving port operations across
the region by improving the human resources in these ports and building efficient
systems that will enable port staff to have better outcomes.
He revealed that over the coming months, several regulations will take effect
regarding port operations; one of which concerns matters of climate adaptation.
During the AGM, a member and officer of the Department of Environment, Ari
Simon, made a presentation on advances that are being made in port operations on
the issue of climate adaptation.
Other notable presentations included the digitization of port operations,
transportation, and trade facilitation.

During the AGM, the delegates were entertained with special performances
coordinated by the Festivals Commission and the Department of Culture. The
delegates were said to have been thrilled and many expressed the view that their
appetites have been wetted for a return at the end of July for Carnival.
