Sale of Alfa Nero to be completed in quick time

The upcoming sale of the super yacht, Alfa Nero, was again discussed at
Wednesday’s meeting of the Cabinet. According to reports the Cabinet examined
the effectiveness of the NOTICE published in the Gazette on 20 March 2023 which
announced the auctioning of the superyacht.
The NOTICE was published over a continuous ten-day period, ending on 31 March
2023. The Cabinet was advised by the Attorney General that he and the Manager
of the Port Authority will examine on Saturday April 8, 2023, the bids received
and announce their choice thereafter.
The proceeds of the sale will be deposited in the Consolidated Fund; outstanding
debts incurred by the yacht will be paid, a new flag will be flown, and a new name
given by the Government.
The purchaser will inherit no liabilities, except that the repairs and regained
seaworthiness of the vessel will fall to the purchaser/new owner. The entire
transaction, including the movement of the vessel away from Antigua’s waters,
will be completed in thirty or more days, depending upon the replacement parts
and the expertise to upgrade the seaworthiness.
