The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s caretaker for the St. Mary’s South
constituency over the past several months, Senator Samantha Marshall, has
decided to drop out of the race clearing the way for a new caretaker to be selected.
The announcement came as a surprise to political observers, especially given
Marshall’s intense campaigning over the past few months.
Sources say party officials were locked away in a meeting on Thursday afternoon
to deal with the matter. Shortly after the meeting, a letter was issued by Sen.
Marshall confirming her decision to step aside.
Since the announcement, another candidate, Dwayne George, has been nominated
as the ABLP caretaker in the constituency. It is now expected that he will be
nominated to contest the St. Mary’s South seat on behalf of the party.
