The lone male delegate participating in the Ottos Comprehensive School’s
Talented Teen pageant held on Saturday night…has emerged as the overall winner.
It was a dominating performance for the crowd-pleaser and winner, 18-year-old
Nicholas Simpson, as he not only won the pageant, but he won four of the five
segments; personality and aspiration, research, performing talent, and creative
wear. In the interview segment, he placed third, emphasizing his consistency
throughout the competition.
The first runner-up spot went to 16-year-old Anique Roberts, who won the
interview segment and second runner-up went to 16-year old Shanae Peters.
The pageant, used to help select a representative from the OCS to enter the
Carnival Talented Teen pageant, lived up to its usual high standard in terms of the
performances by the seven delegates who participated.
The delegates were asked to research a selected Caribbean island and to make a
presentation around the theme ‘my carnival is better than yours’. Each delegate
had to speak about the uniqueness of the Carnival of the country they selected and
to portray the highlights of their research within a two-minute presentation.
For his presentation, Simpson chose to sing a calypso and his presentation included
depiction of mas, fire-eating and scenes from a calypso tent.
Simpson stood out in the competition for the creativity he brought to the
competition, according to one of the organisers.
The show has been in existence for over ten years under the stewardship of dance
teacher, Babu Samuel Jnr.
