Fast Cash Antigua Barbuda has made a $5000.00 donation to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre’s Oncology Department which will be used to aid the fight against breast cancer.

At a brief presentation ceremony held recently, Fast Cash’s Country Manager, Reishard Elvin, said the company wished to align itself with efforts to fight breast cancer which affects millions of women worldwide.

“Breast Cancer has become the predominant cancer to date with 2.26 million new cases in women, recorded in 2020. Fast Cash Antigua finds it only necessary to join in the fight and in helping to bring awareness to our community,” he said.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of SLBMC was Marketing Manager, Salma Crump, who drew attention to the need to increase public awareness about breast cancer.

“Raising awareness is a great thing. Throughout the year our healthcare professionals are asked to do various interviews and speak to community groups about cancer prevention, early detection, and the impact of heredity on cancer risk. The number of requests always escalates sharply in October.

“When we raise awareness, we are providing more opportunities to help educate the public on the health impact of breast cancer, the importance of taking personal responsibility for one’s health, the new research studies that ultimately affect clinical practice and we attract much needed funding which is used to invest in training and equipment, further increasing the level of care we provide to our patients and families,” she said.

Crump added that the hospital is happy that Fast Cash sees value in the work it is doing and has come forward to ensure efforts can continue.
