CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra Steel Band, renowned for its captivating rhythms
and exceptional performances, made an indelible mark at Miami Carnival’s
Panorama. The band's rich history and legacy, combined with their unparalleled
talent, captivated audiences and left an enduring impression on the global Carnival
community.
CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra Steel Band, established in 1945, has been a
driving force in the Steel Band arena, consistently pushing boundaries and
redefining the art form. With a legacy rooted in dedication, talent, and innovation,
CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra has solidified its position as one of the most
influential Steel Bands in the world.
During Miami Carnival’s Panorama, CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra delivered
two electrifying performances that left spectators in awe. Their first performance in
the Carnival Village set the stage ablaze, showcasing their exceptional
musicianship and infectious energy. The band's second performance at the
Panorama Competition exceeded all expectations, captivating the audience with
tunes by King Short Shirt, King Swallow, Queen Claudette Peters, the Burning
Flames, and many more.
The Minister with responsibilities for the Creative Industries, the Honorable Daryll
Matthew opened the twin isle’s presentation with greetings from the Government
and People of Antigua and Barbuda and invited all attendees and thousands of
online viewers to experience Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean’s Greatest
Summer Festival, Antigua Carnival, in 2024. This collaboration between the
Antigua Barbuda Festivals Commission, and Miami Carnival served as a testament
to the strength of Antigua and Barbuda’s cultural offering to the international
carnival community.

Miami Carnival showcases one of the largest US Panorama competitions, however,
the grand performance from CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra showcasing their
exceptional talent and solidifying their position in the global Steel Band landscape
added value to the show. Notably, two different representative figures from
prominent States within the United States expressed their interest in the possibility
of featuring CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra in future events, highlighting the
band's growing international appeal.
The commanding presence of Team Antigua led by Honorable Daryll Matthew,
accompanied by the exhilarating performances of CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra,
opened up numerous media interview opportunities. Minister Honorable Daryll
Matthew, CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra, with Captain Keithley Athill, and
Arranger and Director of Culture Khan Cordice skillfully utilized these
opportunities to shed light on the rich legacy of CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra’s
role of the origin of steel pan and its journey as one of the sweetest sounding
musical instrument in the world.
Minister Matthew enthusiastically expressed, "This is a massive moment for the
Steel Band fraternity in Antigua and Barbuda. CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra
took over the show and left an unforgettable impression. I am incredibly proud to
be the Creative Industries Minister at this moment, witnessing the immense talent
and passion of talented young people of my 268, Antigua and Barbuda." He went
on to say “CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra's exceptional performances at Miami
Carnival Panorama have further solidified their status as a force to be reckoned
with in the global carnival scene. Their electrifying rhythms and captivating stage
presence continue to captivate audiences worldwide, ensuring a bright future for
the band and the rich cultural heritage they represent.
