Two of the country’s top female soca artists have been presented with Citations
and Certificates of Appreciation during the Antigua and Barbuda Day festivities
held on Saturday in the Bronx, New York City.
Reigning Groovy Soca Monarch, Claudette Peters, along with soca artist, Laurena
Davis were both presented with Citations from the Nassau County Legislature for
their outstanding contributions to the soca art form, as well as for being
outstanding examples in their community.

Both artists performed at the Antigua and Barbuda Day festivities and were
honoured for their participation. The Citation reads in part: ‘Whereas it is the
desire of the Nassau County Legislature to honour those individuals who
exemplify integrity, commitment and outstanding contributions for the benefit of
our County and the community they serve; and whereas the Legislature is proud to
extend this special commendation, you are honoured today for living up to the
goals and principles of this prestigious award. Thus, we recognize and honour
Claudette Peters for your contributions to Music and the Performing Arts on the
occasion of Caribbean Splashdown Antigua and Barbuda Day, 2023.’ A separate
Citation was presented to Laurena Davis with similar sentiments being expressed.
The Certificates of Appreciation were presented by the Caribbean Splashdown
Antigua and Barbuda Day committee and honour both artists for their many years
of dedication and hard work they gave individually to the growth and popularity of
soca music.
Peters travelled to New York courtesy of the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals
Commission, and she seemed to have been able to avoid travel mix-ups caused by
a local travel agent, according to a release on Saturday from the Commission.
According to sources, the mix-up only affected the Hell’s Gate Steel Orchestra, as
its delegation was unable to leave.
