Dominican motorcyclist is the country’s latest road fatality

Antigua and Barbuda has recorded another road fatality, with the death early
Sunday morning, of Dominican national, Bram Sanderson. He was thirty years old.
According to reports, Sanderson was riding a motorcycle traveling from west to
east on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway, when it collided with a pickup truck at
the intersection with the American Road just after 3:00 am. The pickup truck was
traveling north to south when the accident happened at the intersection controlled
by a traffic light. It was not clear whether the motorcyclist or the driver of the
pickup failed to obey the traffic light.
A 29-year-old man, Derick Jno Baptiste, known as ‘Gyaz,’ who was the pillion
rider, was thrown from the motorcycle and reportedly landed in the Harney Motors
compound. He has been admitted to hospital with multiple injuries. The pick-up
driver was not seriously injured. Several vehicles on the compound of the car
dealership were said to have received varying degrees of damage.
The Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene within four minutes of
receiving the call. The impact left the 30-year-old with severe injuries, and he died
while being transported to the hospital, despite valiant efforts by emergency
medical technicians, to save his life.
Sanderson was a multi-discipline athlete from the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Over the years, he represented Dominica in several sporting disciplines and was
often described as a multi-talented athlete.
He was the first national athlete to participate in cycling at the commonwealth
games when he represented his country in 2018, in Australia. He was also the first
Dominican to participate on the global stage in the sport of Kayaking.
Sanderson was also a well-rounded track and field athlete and basketballer.

His death has left the sporting fraternity there thrown into a state of shock with his
sudden passing.
Relatives and close companions of Jno Baptiste, confirm he remains in a critical
state at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center. He is said to have sustained significant
injuries, including damage to his hip, head, and other body parts.
Relatives have also taken to social media asking members of the public to come
forward to donate blood for Jno Baptiste.
