DNA tests to identify human remains

The identity of the individual whose human remains were discovered near
Diamond Estate on Monday will likely take some time before it is fully
established.
That is because the police will have to turn to DNA and other forensic tests to help
them in their investigations into the identity of the individual, and the cause of
death.
Police spokesman Inspector Frankie Thomas reported that the human remains are
believed to be that of a male, but that the exact identity of the individual must wait
until the completion of full forensic examinations including DNA tests. These tests
are likely to be done abroad, as these capabilities are not available locally.
Inspector Thomas said the police were alerted on Monday about the presence of
the human remains and immediately a team of investigators converged on the
scene. He described the body as being in an advanced state of decomposition, as
only the skeletal remains were present.
He shared that this indicates that the person had died ‘for some time’ before the
remains were discovered.
Meanwhile, the police spokesman also reported that an autopsy has been
completed on the Syrian businessman who was allegedly shot to death earlier this
month and that the body has been released to the family in preparation for burial.
He did not disclose the results of the autopsy.
