The people of St. Paul have one more community-based organisation around which they can rally.

The Black Eagle Steel Orchestra was launched at the St. Paul Empowerment Centre on Monday night by the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party’s representative for the constituency, E. P. Chet Greene.

At the unveiling of the Black Eagle Steel Orchestra, Greene said it was always his dream for the community to have its own steel band

Greene said the launch of the steel orchestra signals the revival of the steel band in the community.

At one time in history, St. Paul was home to two steel orchestras.

With the assistance of Veron Henry and other members of the Hells Gate Steel Orchestra, youngsters in St. Paul can now learn the musical artform.

Greene is hopeful that the band will be able to participate in this year’s Panorama competition during Antigua’s Carnival.

“We have a number of youngsters from our community journey outwards to join steel bands and the plan is to have them redirect those energies inward by becoming part of Black Eagle Steel Orchestra,” he stated.

The steel band will be managed by the non-profit community group, Synergy Inc.
