Antigua and Barbuda’s popular Jam Band, the Burning Flames, continues to
create history by pushing the boundaries of what a jam band can achieve.
Reports are that Burning Flames, widely considered as the world’s #1 Jam Band
will be inducted into the Soca Hall of Fame in a special ceremony slated for the
end of September, this year.
This prestigious event will take place in Aruba where the Band will accept the
award and perform for their fans from all around the world. This achievement is a
first for a jam band anywhere.
The Burning Flames first burst onto the scene back in 1985 when they released a
cassette tape with two songs, Stylie Tight and Go Go. The songs were instant hits
and dominated the radio airwaves that Carnival.
The band went on to perform LIVE every Saturday near the East Country Pond
and drew thousands of revelers. The sessions were appropriately dubbed Jam
Pond. The Saturday afternoon jam session along with appearances at the annual
Lion’s Club Carnival dances became a staple for Antigua’s Carnival for many
years.
So popular were these two events, that many nationals returned to Antigua each
year for Carnival, especially to attend Jam Pond and later Lion’s Den.
Burning Flames’ musical prowess and influence were felt far from the shores of
Antigua and Barbuda when they were asked to perform the theme song for the
popular Weekend at Bernie’s 2, the second installment in this movie franchise.
The band has performed at concerts around the world including the United States,
Canada, the UK, Europe, and Africa.
