Three artists have been singled out for their outstanding art pieces submitted in a
competition coordinated by the Halo Foundation.
The artists received cash prizes and recognition for their winning paintings in the
Halo Foundation’s Royal Drawing School Art Competition. The prizes were
presented to the three participants by Governor General, Sir Rodney Williams and
Lady Williams at a presentation ceremony held at Government House.
The recipient of the first prize was Shelleysha Morgan, a teacher at the Villa
Primary School for her spectacular piece entitled “Fluidity."  The second prize
was presented to Kelly Hull, an independent artist, for the painting "Mango
Season.”  Bernard Richardson, a teacher at the Antigua Grammar School, was
awarded third prize for his work “Beginning.”  The artists were given cheques in
the amounts of $5000, $3000, and $1000 respectively.
The paintings were exhibited at the annual “Wings of Charity” Fundraiser, held
this year at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
The Halo Foundation spearheaded a 6-week teacher’s training programme earlier
this year, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, and in partnership with
the Jumby Bay Fund. The classes were held at The Workshop Studio Art Gallery
in English Harbour, owned by renowned artist Dina de Brozzi Goodenough. Two
tutors from the Royal Drawing School in London conducted the workshop.
This is the second such training session held in Antigua and Barbuda. Information
on the 2024 classes will soon be made available to the public.
