A new Supervisor of Elections is to be named

The lower house of parliament, the House of Representatives, is convening a
meeting today to discuss several important matters.
Among the matters to be discussed is the creation of a national Land Registry that
will include the lands in Barbuda. It will be the first time that lands in Barbuda will
be featured in a national land registry for Antigua and Barbuda.
The members of the House will also consider the appointment of a Supervisor of
Elections to fill the vacancy left, following the departure of Dame Lorna Simon
who retired after serving for twenty-one years in the post.
Government sources say Acting Supervisor of Elections, Ian Hughes, will be
nominated to succeed Dame Lorna. Hughes has served as deputy supervisor of
elections for several years.
The issue of the by-elections that will be held shortly in the St. Mary’s South
Constituency is also among the matters likely to be discussed. This will be the first
meeting of the House since the resignation of the former member for St. Mary’s
South, Kelvin Simon, which paved the way for the upcoming by-elections.
