The Fire Department in St. John’s has reported that it responded to a fire call at
6:00 pm on Monday, indicating that a wooden building was on fire, on Church
Street, in St. John’s.
Inspector Lester Bagot advised that an immediate response was made with the
Number 15 fire tender. On arrival at the scene, the fire crew met a wooden
structure fully engulfed in flames. Water was used from the fire tender to control
and extinguish the fire.
The St. John’s fire-fighters also received assistance from the Coolidge and All
Saints stations, which had fire tenders on the scene.
Additionally, Hugh Christian also responded with his water delivery truck, as
backup. The abandoned building, frequented by vagrants, was destroyed by the
fire. The fire brigade is investigating the origin of the fire.
