The St. John’s Cooperative Credit Union (SJCCU) which is this week celebrating
its 41 st anniversary of operations, joined hands on Thursday to serve lunch to the
less fortunate who receive a daily hot lunch at the Soup Kitchen, near the public
market.
Organizer of the Soup Kitchen, Inspector Veldon Raggette said the credit union not
only sponsored the lunch for the day, but its staff members participated by sharing
the meals for those who come to the Soup Kitchen daily.
“This is the fifth consecutive year that the members of the credit union are
assisting us here at the Soup Kitchen and the gesture was well-received by those
who received the lunches. It was a well-balanced meal, and we are thankful to the
staff of SJCCU for their continued support of our efforts,” Raggette stated.
He added that a total of 62 persons received lunch on Thursday, through the joint
efforts of the SJCCU and the Soup Kitchen. He is also appealing to other corporate
citizens to assist the Soup Kitchen as many less fortunate have come to rely on the
daily hot lunches that it provides.
