The Trade Union Congress, a grouping of most of the trade unions in Antigua and Barbuda, has elected a new executive to manage its affairs for the next two years.
Kem Riley of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) heads the new executive.
Garolyn Hector of the Antigua and Barbuda Public Service Association is the new general secretary.
The new treasurer is Soria Duprie-Winston of the nurses’ association.
There are three trustees, and two vice presidents who round off the executive.
Riley said the first order of business is a meeting planned for Monday where they will discuss the ongoing salary increases for public servants will be the main topic of discussion.
“The ABWU does not represent public sector workers but several of our constituent members do and we understand that there are some issues regarding the ongoing negotiations between the unions and the government,” Riley disclosed.
He did not elaborate on what the “issues” may be, only saying that the matter will feature prominently at today’s meeting.
The Antigua Trades and Labour Union, which represents the majority of public sector workers, is not a member of the TUC.
