89 yacht from eleven countries to participate in ASW 2024

It’s the day before the start of the 2024 edition of Antigua Sailing Week, 2024,
with nearly ninety boats registered to take part representing eleven countries
including Antigua and Barbuda.
Sources close to ASW reported that there 89 boats, from near and far including,
United States, the UK, Germany, France, Sweden, Italy, Finland, Holland, Ireland,
Barbados, 10 boats from Antigua have registered for the races.  They will compete
in 13 classes of races.
The first encounter – the Round the island race is Saturday, with 22 boats taking
part, only one Antigua and Barbuda boat, Huey Too, competing.
The second edition of Wingfoiling competition started Thursday and goes on to
Friday and Saturday. Nine (9) Wingfoilers are taking part.  There are both
professional and leisure class. The first event was held in 2023, and was hugely
popular.
New is Dragon Class, a one-design class. Paul Ho Jensen, who lives in Antigua
will compete, he is a previous world champion and Olympic gold medalist.
The main social event – Reggae in the Park – will have it’s13 th staging of an event
described as always very popular. This year, it’s Jamaican reggae artist Sanchez
who will be the headline act.  Lay Day is at Pigeon Beach on Wednesday.
The day when most residents look forward to journeying out to English Harbour,
Dockyard Day, is on Saturday 4th May.
The atmosphere at English Harbour is said to be gradually building up. For ASW,
several professional crews are coming in and boats are still arriving.

The internationally popular Antigua Classic Regatta has just ended, on Sunday. A
much more informal affair, less about serious racing and more about beautiful
boats, from many countries.
