Two separate cannabis hauls were carried out by both the Royal Police Force of
Antigua and Barbuda and the Customs Division; this as The Police Narcotics and
Customs Departments continued their heightened observance at the country’s two
main ports of entry.
Police spokesman Inspector Frankie Thomas said the drugs seized amounted to a
total of 55 pounds of cannabis. He revealed that the interceptions took place at the
Deep Water Harbour and the V.C Bird International Airport on Wednesday.
“The agencies jointly conducted two separate joint drug operations at the Deep
Water Harbour and found a total of 35 pounds of cannabis in two separate
shipments. Both seizures are estimated to value a combined amount of $230,000. A
similar operation was carried out at the airport and another 20 pounds with a street
value of $120,000 was also discovered,” Inspector Thomas reported.
The controlled substances were taken to the police station as further investigations
continue. Two men are currently assisting with the investigations.
