Police have arrested and charged a 16-year-old youth in connection with the
alleged murder of Roudi Shamly.
The Upper Fort Road accused is expected in court sometime today, for his first
appearance.
The Police Administration is thanking the general public for the support offered to
the police during the investigation.
Members of the public are being encouraged by the police to continue supporting
their efforts in the process of solving other outstanding matters of crime.
Meanwhile, a shootout between the police and two men in the early hours of
Wednesday morning ended with one man in custody and another on the run.
Police were at the time responding to reports of two men dressed in hoodies and
masks seen loitering behind the Stables Nightclub in Cassada Gardens.
As the police arrived, they observed a rental car R 4089 traveling in a northerly
direction leaving Stables Night Club. The responding law enforcement officers
ordered the driver to stop the car, but instead of heeding the orders of the police,
the driver accelerated the vehicle, which then hit a parked car in the area, before
slamming into a culvert.
According to reports, two masked men exited the vehicle and one opened fire on
the police. The officers returned fire causing both men to run.
The driver, who is believed to be the gunman reportedly escaped, but his
accomplice was unlucky.
Following a search of the area, the man was discovered hiding in the nearby bushes
and taken into police custody.
When police searched the vehicle which was later impounded, several items were
found, that the men intended to use while committing their crimes.
Investigations remain ongoing.
