The West Indies women slumped to a second consecutive heavy defeat at the hands of England Women, losing by 143 runs in the second (ODI) of their three-match series at Grace Road in Leicester on Wednesday.

The hosts produced a dominant all-round performance, led by a blistering century from Amy Jones, who was named Player of the Match.

England piled on a massive 366 for 6 in their 50 overs after being sent in to bat, with Amy Jones hammering 129 off 98 balls, featuring 20 boundaries.

She shared a monumental 202-run opening stand with Tammy Beaumont, who compiled a well-paced 106 off 109 deliveries with 12 fours and a six.

After both openers departed, England maintained their momentum with contributions from Emma Lamb (55 off 45) and Sophia Dunkley (31 off 19) to close their innings at a commanding 7.32 runs per over.

The West Indies’ bowling attack struggled throughout the innings. Karishma Ramharack (two for 57) and Aaliyah Alleyne (two for 52) were the only bowlers to register more than one wicket, while Afy Fletcher (one for 58) and Jannillea Glasgow (one for 59) picked up solitary scalps.

Crucially, the West Indies were without their regular captain and star all-rounder Hayley Matthews, who missed the match due to a left shoulder injury, and her fellow opener Qiana Joseph, who was reportedly ill. Their absence left a significant void in the top order and overall leadership.

In reply, the West Indies Women were bowled out for 223 in 45.4 overs, despite a spirited effort from Realeanna Grimmond, who top-scored with 53 off 72 balls, and a late burst from Jannillea Glasgow, who smashed 44 off just 24 deliveries, hitting nine boundaries in a brief but exciting cameo.

However, the middle order failed to fire, with key players like acting captain Shemaine Campbelle (6), Stafanie Taylor (20), and Shabika Gajnabi (8) unable to withstand England’s disciplined bowling.

West Indies fell into collapse mode after reaching 154 for four, losing six wickets for just 69 runs. Alice Capsey starred with the ball for England, taking 3 for 41, including the vital wickets of Taylor, Gajnabi, and Fraser.

Linsey Smith was equally economical and effective, finishing with 2 for 27 from her 10 overs. Lauren Filer also chipped in with 2 for 44, while Kate Cross, Lauren Bell, and Alice Davidson-Richards claimed one wicket apiece.

Despite some resistance in the lower order, the damage had already been done, and the West Indies were dismissed 143 runs short of the target with 4.2 overs remaining.

The defeat marks another humbling outing for the Caribbean side, who now trail 2–0 in the series. England’s combination of aggressive batting, sharp fielding, and clinical bowling continues to overwhelm the Windies, who will need a dramatic turnaround to salvage pride in the third and final ODI in Taunton on Saturday.
