The Old Terminal Building at the VC Bird International Airport, now called Terminal B, will play a major role in the country’s increased venture into homeporting.

According to the Tourism Minister, Charles Fernandez, the government is currently carrying out repair and upgrade work on the terminal as there are plans to re-purpose the facility that has largely been idle to passenger movement since the opening of the new terminal, Terminal A, almost ten years ago.

“They are working feverishly on the Old Terminal because there is where we are going to be moving the passengers who arrive here aboard charters to begin their cruises as part of homeporting. Everything is being put in place to ensure that we are ready for the 2025-26 cruise season which begins in October,” he reported.

Minister Fernandez explained that work on the roof is scheduled for completion at the end of this week with the work on renovating the interior slated to commence as soon as the roof is completed.

More than 20-thousand passengers started their cruises here in Antigua and Barbuda after arriving via air charters as part of homeporting for the 2024-25 season and already, the Antigua Cruise Port is predicting that this figure will likely increase for the upcoming season.
