A St. John’s magistrate has sentenced Trinidad and Tobago national, Sheldon Sambury, who now resides in Bendals to two years and six months in HM Prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of the illegal possession of a firearm.
Sambury, 50, a farmer and a member of Boboshanti Tribe, was also sentenced to one year in prison on the charge of the illegal possession of eight rounds of matching ammunition.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
Sambury admitted to the police that the firearm – a Smith and Wesson .357 and matching ammunition were his when he was arrested.
He told the police that the gun was for his protection as he had been robbed previously.
