The new public cemetery at Tomlinson’s, to be named Tranquility Gardens, will be opened on June 16, 2025.
According to the Cabinet Notes, the Ministry of Works has completed the roads and parking apron within the cemetery. The Ministry is now carrying out ancillary work on the facility readying it for the June 16 opening.
The government has been working for several years to develop the new cemetery in light of the fact the current public cemetery on the Friar’s Hill Road has long past its carrying capacity.
Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph, one of the driving forces behind the project, said the new cemetery will introduce new system of burials where the grave will be flat after the body has been interred and not have mounds as is common at other burial sites in the country.
