Antigua and Barbuda’s Trade Minister, E.P. Chet Greene has welcomed the visit
by a team from the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturer’s Association (TTMA) as it
signals the importance of regional trade within the global economy.
Greene was at the time speaking at a seminar organized by the Antigua and
Barbuda Chamber of Commerce and Industry to facilitate greater person-to-person
contact between the TTMA team and local business people.
“This also signals that economic integration under CSME-CARICOM Single
Market and Economy continues to facilitate the free movement of goods and
services, among member countries, providing opportunities for our citizens while
fostering economic growth and development. This corporation will benefit our
citizens in the form of reduced tariffs and trade barriers within the community,” he
noted.
According to Greene trade has been seen as the engine of economic growth that
creates jobs, reduces poverty, and increases economic opportunity for any country;
as trade liberalization increases market access, by lowering trade barriers and
reducing discrimination between trading partners.
“As such, this initiative brings together a collaboration between the Trinidad and
Tobago Manufacturers Association and the Antigua and Barbuda Chamber of
Commerce in order to maximize trade and investment opportunities. This event
will also assist in driving the local manufacturing sector and associations to
vibrancy,” he added.
The trade minister sees the collaboration between TTMA and the Antigua and
Barbuda Chamber of Commerce as making it easier for local manufacturers and
local businesses to network and trade and remain sustainable in the global market.
