The Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries in partnership with The
University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus has postponed this
evening’s town hall meeting planned to update the Five Islands community on the
expansion of The UWI Five Islands Campus and the relocation of the Five Islands
Primary School.
Organisers say the reason behind the postponement is the impending weather
conditions associated with Tropical Storm Tammy, which formed late yesterday
afternoon and is forecasted to impact Antigua and Barbuda on Friday evening.
“The safety of our community members is our top priority, and we believe it is in
everyone’s best interest to delay the event,” a statement read.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this postponement may cause and appreciate
your understanding. We will announce the new date for the town hall meeting as
soon as it is confirmed.”
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda and The University of the West Indies
Five Islands Campus have pledged their commitment to working with the
community to ensure that the planned expansion work it will undertake, along with
the relocation of the primary school are successful.
UWI FIC’s expansion will be possible with the allotment of US$80 million, part of
a loan secured by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda through the Saudi Fund
for Development.
