Law enforcement agencies have reported that they have intercepted an attempt to

smuggle illegal firearm and ammunition into the country by concealing the

contraband within what appears to be the Holy Bible.

A release from the police communications unit, STRATCOM said a firearm and

several rounds of ammunition were seized at the Deep Water Harbour on Monday

by intrepid officers.

“Police and Custom officers were conducting a joint operation at the main sea port

on January 15, when they discovered a 9mm pistol and 18 rounds of matching

ammunition concealed inside a package label as the holy bible.

“The items were seized and taken to the police station where further investigations

are ongoing,” the release stated.

Just last week, STRATCOM reported that the police seized close to one hundred

thousand dollars’ worth of cannabis at the V.C.Bird International Airport on

Thursday, 11 January.

The controlled substance, weighing 16 lbs, was discovered inside the Transit Cargo

area at the airport. It is valued EC$96,000. This is the first drug seizure at the

airport for 2024.

In 2023, the police and customs seized approximately 645.5 pounds of cannabis,

valued at EC$3,880,855 at the V.C. Bird International Airport and Deep Water

Harbour.

Four people were arrested and charged for drug offences in three of the seizures

made at the Deep Water Harbour. Also, the police seized 250 rounds of 9mm

ammunition at Deep Water Harbour in February of last year.
