Stranded AA Passengers Depart Antigua
Thursday 14th March, 2019-Stranded US bound passengers whose flight was cancelled on Wednesday due to the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft departed V.C Bird International Airport today.
The aircraft type is the one that was operated by Ethiopian Airlines that crashed last weekend, killing everyone on board.
American Airlines operate the Max 8 aircraft on the Miami/Antigua route. But yesterday afternoon, the US President grounded both the Max 8 and Max 9 , stating those in the air at the time would have been allowed to get to their destinations, while those on the ground were not going anywhere. The announcement caused travel chaos, including here in Antigua.
Passengers on American Airlines were reportedly booked in hotels, until today, when the carrier sent another aircraft for passengers.
As for the plane that was grounded at V.C Bird International, there are reports that the airline dispatched a crew to Antigua to fly the aircraft back to the US.
