It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that I learned of the tragic death of a young woman during the Labour Day celebrations at Fort James Beach. On behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who are grieving this sudden and painful loss.
Labour Day is a time when we come together to honour the hard work and contributions of our workers, and to celebrate the spirit of unity and progress that defines our nation. It is deeply saddening that such a joyous occasion has been marred by this unfortunate event.
As Acting Prime Minister and Minister responsible for Labour and Public Safety, I call on all citizens and residents across the island who are partaking in Labour Day festivities to take special care to ensure their safety and the safety of others. Let us remain vigilant, look out for one another, and conduct our celebrations in a responsible and peaceful manner.
In moments like this, we are reminded of how fragile life truly is, and of the profound importance of compassion, unity, and collective care. As we mourn this tragic loss, let us honour the memory of the deceased by committing ourselves to looking out for one another. Let our national observances not only be a time of celebration, but also a reflection of our shared responsibility to ensure that every gathering is marked by safety, and care for all.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
