The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre is taking a big step to bolster the medical and other skills in the Emergency Department with the additional of a specialist who will be assigned to that area.

SLBMC has announced the recruitment of Dr. Ayanna Whittington who now joins the SLBMC family as its newest Emergency Medicine Physician in the Emergency Department.

Dr. Whittington brings strong training, experience, and a passion for emergency care that will be a big plus for both our patients and the hospital’s team.

“I am ecstatic to join the Emergency Medical team at the SLBMC. It is my pleasure to bring my years of experience to the people of Antigua and Barbuda with the aim to continually improve the care that this institution offers,” she stated.

Marketing Manager for the SLBMC, Salma Crump, said the recruitment of Dr. Whittington serves as an indication of the institution’s determination to come to grips with the area of the hospital with the highest levels of complaints, Emergency Department.

“We know the challenges in healthcare are real — we’ve faced many and continue to face them — but our commitment to strengthening the care and support we provide to patients and families remains just as strong. Welcoming Dr. Ayanna Whittington and Dr. Christopher Sulowski to our Emergency Department is another step forward. Their expertise and dedication will help us keep building the kind of care our community deserves,” she stated.

Dr. Whittington is Barbadian by birth and a graduate of the University of the West Indies.
