Thursday 7th March, 2019-New school buses are to be added to the existing fleet operated by the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board.

The fleet expansion becomes necessary due to the increasing school population in both public and private institutions.

While he could not speak to the specifics regarding the acquisition of the vehicles, Ambassador Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst said it becomes necessary as public primary schools are receiving more attention.

It was anticipated that the student population would be about 17,000 at this time. However, the total student population in Primary and Secondary schools exceed 22,000.

With schools in St. John’s and its environs becoming over populated, focus is being placed on admitting students to schools in the rural areas that are spacious.
