The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador accredited to Antigua and Barbuda, Ambassador Abdullah Alsaihani, met with senior officials of the government in St. John’s on Thursday during which the strengthening of cultural and other ties between the two countries was discussed.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne hosted the ambassador during which he raised the issue of continued assistance from the Kingdom particularly in the areas, of education, cultural exchanges and investments.
Already, Antigua and Barbuda has negotiated an US$80 million from the Saudi Sovereign Fund for the expansion of the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus. The first phase of the project, which is the construction of a new primary school to replace the current Five Islands Primary, is slated to begin later this year.
The prime minister also used the opportunity to invited Saudi investments in Antigua and Barbuda, noting that the country is a safe place to invest and to visit.
The ambassador also paid a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Minister, E.P Chet Greene.
