The St. Michael’s Anglican Primary School is the latest beneficiary of a Peace
Shelf donated by the Rotary Club of Antigua.
The “Peace Shelf”, which is located in the school’s library, features a number of
books, which aim to inspire the idea of peace and a tranquil environment.
In making the presentation of behalf of the Club, President Michael Spencer,
explained that Rotary Clubs across the world are playing a critical role in educating
persons about the importance of fostering, promoting and maintaining peace.

“We are very fortunate in Antigua and Barbuda to have peaceful environs because
I am sure that as students you have learned about countries where there are
political tensions and conflicts. I want to encourage you as students to read these
books and focus on ways to maintain a peaceful and calm environment in your life
today. You are never too old to make a difference”, President Michael encouraged.
The school’s Principal, Juielta Samuel thanked the Club for the symbolic donation
and assured that the students will be encouraged to make good use of the books.
Rotary promotes eight pillars of positive peace. They include: a well-functioning
government, a sound business environment, acceptance of the rights of others,
good relations with neighbors, the free flow of information, high levels of human
capital, low levels of corruption and the equitable distribution of resources.
