An EC$5,000 reward is being offered for information that will help determine the whereabouts of George “Murphy” James of New Winthorpes.

Tuesday marked one week since the 71-year-old vanished after leaving his friend’s coal kiln off Old Parham Road.

On the day he was last seen, James left his home at around 6:30am, in the company of a friend, to assist in retrieving the coal from a kiln located near the mangrove between Parham Town and Weirs.

According to his friend, James left shortly after arriving at the kiln to visit the beach.

He has not been seen since.

Lending support to the family of the elderly man, Member of Parliament for St. Peter, Asot Michael, has offered to fund the reward that will be released to anyone who can provide “tangible information” to James’ relatives and the police about his whereabouts.

Several searches have been conducted in the hope of locating James, who reportedly suffers from dementia.

For more than five hours on Saturday, a search party led by the police combed New Winthorpes, Pares Village and Osbourn, but came up empty handed.

Residents who may have any information about the whereabouts of George “Murphy” James are asked to call his relatives on 726-5787, 717- 7702, or contact the nearest police station.
