Tuesday 2nd October, 2018 –Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) is justifying the reason behind its decision to eliminate the zonal system it used in the past for the disconnection and re-connection of the services it offers.
The utilities company in making the announcement last month said disconnections due to the non-payment of bills will be carried out throughout the island at the same time, a decision that has proven unpopular among many of its consumers.
This morning on Talking Pointe, APUA’s Public Relations Officer, Sharifa George explained that the policy is not new.
APUA’s Water Manager, Ian Lewis, says the company over the years has been lenient in implementing the policy. But the need for proper planning led them to phase out the zonal system.
APUA is encouraging consumers to monitor and wherever necessary, seek to conserve electricity and water, so as to prevent having to pay large sums of money in utilities.
