Re-Distributed Spectrum to Reduce Roaming Charges

Thursday 25th April, 2019-The equal distribution of the 850 megahertz bandwidth on the spectrum will give APUA a boost particularly where international services are concerned.

Cabinet has agreed to instruct telecommunication providers FLOW and DIGICEL that it has made an irreversible decision to redistribute the bandwidth, since APUA has applied to share in the space.

The move is aimed at reducing the cost of roaming and will allow APUA to gain entry into that market.

Cabinet, according to Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst,  insists the frequency is owned by the state and likens it to a lease.

The spectrum was distributed to Cable and Wireless in the 1980s and it was later extended to Digicel.
