The ABI Insurance and Cool and Smooth Pytonz have captured their first Men’s Division 1 title of the Antigua and Barbuda Amateur Volleyball Association’s (ABAVA) Local Club League.

The Pytonz, who have three games remaining, clinched the title in the seven-team round-robin league by extending their unbeaten run with a 3-0 victory against the Renegades at the indoor stadium at the YMCA Sports Complex.

The Pytonz recorded their ninth win in as many games by surging to their 25-8, 25-15, and 25-14 victory against the Renegades to advance to an unassailable 41 points at the top of the standings.

The Renegades remain second from the bottom of the standings with 14 points after slumping to their eighth defeat in 10 games.

The Storming Lions leapfrogged defending men’s Division 1 champions Theatric Lighting and Stage Effects and JOMA Caribbean Stoneville from third to second place by pulling off a 3-0 victory against the Phoenix High Flyerz.

The Storming Lions notched up their seventh win in 11 games by prevailing 25-16, 25-23, and 25-21 against the Phoenix High Flyerz, who remain in fifth place after suffering their fourth loss in eight encounters.

Vernon G. Edwards High Flyerz notched up their fifth win in nine games to move into fourth place by soaring to a 3-0 victory against the Invaders in their Men’s Division 1 affair on Saturday.

The High Flyers took an hour and 12 minutes to prevail 25-22, 25-17, and 25-13 against the Invaders, who slipped from fourth to fifth place after suffering their seventh defeat in 11 encounters.

Cool and Smooth and JOMA Caribbean Da Squad continue to dominate the Women’s Division 1 League.

Da Squad, who have already clinched their fourth consecutive title, maintained their unbeaten run with a 3-1 victory against Theatric Lighting and Stage Effects and JOMA Caribbean Stoneville in their penultimate game in the six-team round-robin league on Saturday.

Da Squad claimed their ninth win in as many games by pulling off a 24-26, 25-16, 25-15, and 25-23 victory against Stoneville in an hour and 40 minutes. Stoneville remains in fourth place after slumping to their fifth defeat in nine games.

However, the Women’s Second Division game between DHS, Print Xpress and Auto Craze Royal Cruisers 2 and High Flyerz Valkyries was not played after both teams failed to show up for the encounter.

Both teams have been penalized by the ABAVA, which has ruled that they have forfeited the game.

It means Royal Cruisers 2 will remain second from the bottom of the standings after suffering their fifth loss in six games.

The High Flyerz Valkyries also remain in seventh place in the nine-team round-robin league after slumping to their third loss in five encounters.
