Port Fees Cannot Be Unilaterally Adjusted
Monday 8th October, 2018-The Manager of Antigua Port Authority, Darwin Telemaque is explaining that a process will have to be undertaken if port charges are to be increased.
He was responding to a newspaper article of 8th October, 2018, which he believes is not clear and may be indicating that the Antigua Port Authority’s “impending increase” in fees is reason for shipping lines adding new charges.
According to Telemaque, there is currently no plan to hike port tariffs, but once that conversation begins, certain procedures must be followed.
Additionally, he pointed out there is nothing port officials can do to prevent shipping lines implementing increased fees.
