Political Parties Turn Out For Nomination Day
Monday 5th March, 2018 – Nomination Day for all parties that will contest the upcoming General Elections has ended.
At least five political parties are expected to field candidates. However, it is uncertain if all would have met the requirements to nominate candidates.
However, for the two major political parties, support for their candidates was not in short supply. Political leader of the Antigua/Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) and Prime Minister Gaston Browne was nominated by Calypso Legend, Sir Mc.Clean ‘King Short Shirt’ Emanuel at Villa Primary School this morning. Speaking after completing the process earlier today, the prime minister expressed gratitude to the veteran calypsonian for placing confidence in him. Addressing reporters, Mr. Browne reiterated that his party will retain governance and will take all 17 seats.
The City West MP said should the United Progressive Party become the government, an economic collapse will be real.
Prime Minister Browne describes the promises made by the UPP political leader last evening at the party’s launch of its candidates as unrealistic, promises that can deprive the country of much needed revenue.
Mr. Browne says his party’s plans and programmes are clearly articulated and his government will continue to advance the country as it has been doing for the last three and a half years.
