PM Browne leads delegation to 44th Meeting of CARICOM Heads

Prime Minister Gaston Browne is in Nassau, the Bahamas for the 44th Meeting of CARICOM Heads which begins on Wednesday.

Several critical issues to the region will be up for discussion, including climate change, climate finance and the situation in Haiti.

Ahead of the meeting, Foreign Affairs Minister and Chairman of Council of Foreign and Community Relations COFCOR, E. P. Chet Greene will chair a meeting of the body and present a report of their discussions to the heads of government.

Other issues on the meeting’s agenda include an update on COVID-19 and other emerging health issues, the Caribbean Single Market and Economy, agriculture and security issues.

While in the Bahamas, the prime minister will also engage with Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and participate in a roundtable with United States Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry, Special Presidential Advisor for the Americas, Christopher Dodd and President and CEO of the Export – Import Bank of the United States, Reta Jo Lewis.

The leaders will also engage in a video conference with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and discuss the Bridgetown initiative for the Reform of the Global Financial Architecture.

Prime Minister Browne, who is accompanied by Minister of Housing, Works and Urban Renewal, Maria Browne, and Ambassador Dr. Clarence Henry, returns to Antigua and Barbuda on Thursday.
