PM: Apply for Canadian Visas Before Regulation Changes

Monday 2nd July, 2018 –Prime Minister Gaston Browne has suggested that Antiguans and Barbudans should apply for Canadian visas before new regulations take effect.

Last week, it was announced that effective December 2018, OECS citizens will no longer be able to submit Canadian visa applications online and the process will then require applicants to present themselves physically at the visa issuing agency in Trinidad.

The prime minister, speaking on the Browne and Browne show at the weekend, said there is a window of opportunity and the time is right to make application for the travel document.

As part of its increased security processes, Canada now requires everyone from anywhere in the world that needs a visa to provide biometric data, including fingerprints and photographs information. Therefore, visa applicants from all OECS countries will have to travel to Trinidad physically to provide the data from December.

Prime Minister Browne says he does not fault Canada for putting in place security measures, noting the world as we knew it has changed dramatically.
