Play It Out Concert Launched

Thursday 2nd May, 2019-The planned anti-plastic concert ‘Play it Out’ scheduled for Antigua next month was launched at the Hodges Bay Club this morning, with Prime Minister Gaston Browne issuing a warning on the devastating effects plastic pollution can have on the local economy.

Prime Minister Browne stated the responsibility is one that must be undertaken by countries the world over and expressed satisfaction that Antigua and Barbuda has taken the lead in that regard.

The initiative, which will be headlined by Grammy Award winner Ashanti, will be held on June 1st, 2019 at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground and is supported by the United Nations.


Environment Minister Molwyn Joseph, speaking at this morning’s launch underscored the importance of political will in making such a bold move in banning single use plastic bags.

Also in the lineup of artists and performers are American indie-rock band St. LuciaBomba Estéreo, an electric-duo hailing from Colombia; Nico & Vinz, an R&B act from Norway; Rocky Dawuni, Ghana’s premiere reggae artist and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador; and Grammy nominated German DJ/producer Robin Schulz. The event will also feature top local artists, including Ricardo Drue and Claudette Peters and Soca King Machel Montano.
