Pediatrician Reveals How Babies Were Burnt

Tuesday 7th May, 2019-Dr. Shivon Belle-Jarvis has pledged that Mount St. John’s Medical Centre is committed to the full restoration of the babies that have suffered burns while in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The plight of at least four babies were made public by their parents recently who detailed that their newborns sustained injuries to their hands and in one instance an infant’s face, prompting swift reaction from the public, with criticisms leveled against the hospital for what took place.

Today, at a press conference, the head of the pediatric unit at MSJMC detailed what happened that led to the babies sustaining burns.

Dr. Shivon Belle-Jarvis disputes reports that a particular equipment is being used to assist in regularizing a baby’s temperature, which is now causing apprehension among some parents.

The injuries sustained by the babies have caused hospital officials to make major changes in how certain procedures are undertaken.

The head of the pediatric unit said what transpired is not immune to Antigua and Barbuda, pointing to Australia, the UK and even Japan where similar incidents of babies suffering injuries through IV being administered and babies being burnt in the process of regularizing their body temperatures are recorded.

Dr. Belle-Jarvis says the hospital takes full responsibility for what has happened.
